I am a studio potter making functional and one-off pieces,
working
with
a range of stoneware and porcelain clays. My work is fired
in an oriental style three-chamber wood-kiln and a
salt-glaze gas kiln, both of which I have built myself. I
am fascinated by the interaction of salt and wood-fire
with the clay. These methods of firing enhance by forms
and are a source of constant inspiration.
I am also a professionally trained Art and Ceramics
teacher and have been running
pottery courses
for adults (beginners to professional) here at my studio
for the past fifteen years. This year I am launching a
number of exciting New Short Courses for 09. Individuals
and groups can now choose from
pottery courses on
wood-firing,
salt-glazing courses,
raku or
creative-wheel, with an effective use of time and
lower cost. There will also be Japanese-themed workshops
where food and ceramics make an exciting fusion! We
are conscious of our commitment to the environment and our
courses, particularly the wood-fire and raku are energy
sustainable ways of firing quality ceramics. The setting
is in a clean, rural environment, my studio being a
sensitive restoration of an old farm barn. We have a bog
garden where wild life can thrive. We grow our own
vegetables which you can enjoy at the table. In this
environment your creativity will be nurtured. To quote the
potter Takeshi Yasuda “ Squeeze clay, it will trap you for
a life time.” |
