Salt Glaze Course: €580

This programme has been designed to appeal to students, keen amateurs, hobby potter and professional potters. A basic level of ability is required. Students may bring bisqued pots (up to 6) ready to be slipped and glazed for the firing. Your pieces will take on a new life force in this stimulating, often difficult, firing process. The course also consists of studio-making and practice, focusing on more advanced techniques.

Outline Schedule

The Course begins on Sunday evening. Assemble for a welcoming meal at 19.00 hrs. Introduction to kiln and studio.

Monday & Tueday Demonstration and Making Workshop. 9 am - 5 pm each day

9 - 11am: Demonstration of forms and surfaces for salt glaze
11 - 11.15am: Tea/Coffee Break
11.15 - 1pm: Students making workshop supported by tutors.
1 - 2 pm: Lunch
2 - 5 pm: Demonstration and student making workshop  Studio remains open on Making Days to 8 pm.

Wed: finish work and bisque fire.


Thurs: Decorate, wad and pack kiln.
Start firing


Friday: Fire salt kiln. End firing and evening celebration meal. Assemble for evening meal at 19.00 hrs.
 

Saturday: Kiln opening. Assess and clean work. Departure 15.00hrs.

Note: Please bring an apron, a hand-towel and comfortable (old!) clothing.
