Our weekend course is a comprehensive and action-packed introduction to
ceramics, suitable for beginners and improvers. You will be working in a
well-equipped artist’s studio where you will receive excellent individual
tuition. You will learn how to make work on the potters wheel. We will also
explore a full range of hand-making techniques including coil-building,
slab-making, and simple mould-making processes.
These courses can also be a stress-free chill-out encounter with clay - you
decide! I will give demonstrations and advice on how to develop your ideas
into finished ceramic pieces. You can expect to make 3 or 4 pieces. Fired work
is an extra cost by kilo.
Programme:
- Wheel work
- Hand-building, coil, coil and pinch, slab making
- Basic mould-making· Advance techniques for wheel
- Glazing and firing advice
- Slip decoration (various techniques).
Outline Schedule:
Day 1: (Saturday)
Course starts at 9.30 am and finishes at 5 pm
Day 2/Day 3
(Sunday/Monday) Course starts at 9.30am and finishes at 5pm/4 pm (last day)
Break for Tea/Coffee at 11.00 am and Lunch at 1 - 2 pm.
Students can arrive on Friday evening or on Saturday morning in time for
the first session! For your evening meals you can self cater or enjoy the
lively local restaurant scene.
The studio will be open every day until 8 pm for individual work.
Tea/Coffee breaks and lunches are included throughout the course. 5 - 8
students per course
Note: Please bring an apron, a hand-towel and comfortable (old!)
clothing.
